Ariana Chaivaranon
Thailand / A+ Works of Art
Ariana Chaivaranon (b. 1996, Thailand) is an artist and curator based in Bangkok. Chaivaranon’s practice (painting, printmaking, sculpture) explores “noise” as a visual element that penetrates the borders between forms, media, and identities. For Chaivaranon, noise is a physical texture that interrupts totalising systems like grids, binaries, and photographic documents. Noise incarnates in the work as historical, statistical, and cultural research that takes visual form as rainbow pixilation, fragmented gold leaf, open windows, raw edges, and subjects stranded in the rupture between the virtual and the real. By picturing ‘noise,’ Chaivaranon problematises the logic of binaries and boundaries and betrays the limits of representation.
Chaivaranon’s artworks have been exhibited in group and solo shows on three continents at venues including H&R Block Artspace (Kansas City), Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana (Venice), and Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts (Cambridge). Chaivaranon holds a B.A. from Harvard University in Art, Film, and Visual Studies, and in Art History, as well as an M.A. in Global Affairs from Tsinghua University, Schwarzman College.
