Singapore Chinatown is a place that revolves around people. Across the years, it has witnessed various stages of urban development in the country. In a peculiar way, Chinatown ties together the emotions, memories and lives of many Singaporeans.
Memories of Singapore Chinatown <回顾牛车水> is a 20-minute Chinese documentary produced as a precious archive of history through the eyes of local oil painters Ang Ah Tee, Choo Keng Kwang, and Chua Mia Tee. It also features the photography of Yip Cheong Fun, one of the outstanding photographers of the century by the New York Photographic Society and the recipient of Singapore Cultural Medallion in 1984. His photographs were taken in Chinatown from 1950s till his death in 1989.
