#SEAgalleries — 47 Canal

Introducing #SEAgalleries, a quick questionnaire where we hear soundbites from the gallerists you can expect to meet at S.E.A. Focus 2019.

First up, we speak with Oliver Newton, co-founder of 47 Canal, an uber cool gallery for emerging artists like Josh Kline, Anicka Yi, and Amy Lien & Enzo Camacho.

In your opinion, what makes an ideal art fair for your gallery to participate in?
An ideal art fair is made by the people who attend it. We love an audience that is open and excited about new artists and new ideas.

What do you hope will come to fruition with your involvement at S.E.A. Focus?
We hope to be able to share the work of our artists and the vision of the gallery with the audience at SEA Focus. We also hope to meet and exchange ideas with artist and galleries from the area that we might not be as familiar with.

What are your thoughts on Singapore as a backdrop for a boutique art fair?
We have never been to Singapore before so I’m very excited to see the city for the first time!

Name artists from the region you are currently excited about and why.
We work with Amy Lien and Enzo Camacho who are a very exciting artist collaborative. Amy is Taiwanese-American; Enzo was born and raised in the Philippines, and they are partly based in Manilla. Over the last few years their practice has focused on an increasingly connected world and the global relationships of commerce and culture.
